ChessKid.com is an awesome educational Web site that allows for blitz chess, slow games, video lessons and tactics training. It was designed by two strong chess players/teachers specifically for children. If I had the time to make a chess site, I would have made it look like ChessKid!

The Web site has easy-to-understand, very affordable interactive chess resources with it's Gold Membership: unlimited access to its tactics trainer, video lessons, articles, computer workout tools & the ability for students to review all the games they ever play online.

There are two types of ChessKid.com memberships – Gold and Basic.

  • Gold Memberships allow for an unlimited number of games and full use of the tactics trainer and online video lessons, as well as the ability for students to review all the games they ever play online. The training programs often dovetail chess club lessons. (For example, if a chess club lesson is about the King and Queen checkmate, a student can practice this checkmate against a computer using ChessKid.)

  • Basic Memberships are free and allow blitz games and a limited number of standard games.

Gold memberships are normally priced at $50/year, but thanks to the League’s partnership with ChessKid, they are available for a special rate – only $30/year (less than the cost of one private lesson!). Gold memberships will be active until January 1, 2014.

For either membership type, Mike Klein will create your child’s account and will email you his/her username and password. (No children’s names are used online. The username will be a combination of a verb and noun, something like “LaughingChicken.”) Your child will then be able to play right away! The site is very user-friendly.
