<p>Twenty-four players competed over a fortnight with more than $160,000 in prizes awarded.&nbsp; The tournament took place at the elegant Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.</p>
<p>Mike also finished 1st place in the under-2400 catagory of the accompanying blitz tournament, ahead of several grandmasters.</p>

The Endhaven Cougars have the largest chess club in CMS - about 140 members!</p>

<p>The tournament is open to all children in grades K-8. No prior tournament experience is necessary. If you are experienced, the tournament will serve as a great warmup to <a href="http://www.uschess.org/tournaments/2010/elem/" target="_blank">National events</a>. Plus, free game analysis will be available at the tournament!</p>
<p>The tournament will be in three sections: K-3, K-5 and K-8. In the K-3 and K-5 sections, a minimum of 10 individual trophies and 3 team trophies will be awarded. In the K-8, the top 5 individuals and top team will be awarded trophies.</p>
<p>For all players, check in is between 8:30-9:00 a.m. If you arrive later, your child may not be able to play the first round. K-3 players will play 4 rounds at 9:30, 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00, with an awards ceremony to follow at 2:15. K-5 and K-8 players will play 3 rounds at 9:30, 11:30 and 1:00, with an awards ceremony to follow at 2:45.</p>
<p>Breakfast and lunch will be for sale on site. Chess sets will be provided for competition; you may bring your own for analysis. Please bring chess clocks if desired (not required). Parents are required to stay with children or assign a chaperone.</p>
<p>The entry fee is $15 if pre-registered (payable on-site, cash or check). On-site registration is $25. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Endhaven Chess Club. Whether pre-registered or not, please arrive NO LATER than 9:00 a.m.</p>

The tournament will be in Greensboro from February 27-28 and will bring together more than 500 young players from across the state to determine state champions and teams in more than a half-dozen sections.</p>
<p>Young Master Chess will be hosting a training camp from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 13 at Smith Academy of International Language at 1600 Tyvola Rd (note the change due to the Feb. 15 snow make-up day).</p>
<p>The camp will focus on specific areas of tournament play to help your child be more confident and successful at the tournament.</p>
<p>It will be taught by FM Mike Klein and Jessica Martin. Students of all ages and abilities are welcome; campers will be divided into groups. To register, please click <a href="http://youngmasterchess.squarespace.com/feb-13-training-camp-registrat/">here</a>.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The cost is $20 per child if pre-registered by Friday, February 12. On-site registration is $25. All monies collected on the morning of the camp. Please arrive between 8:45 and 9:00.
